The Expiatory Temple of the Sagrada Família, commonly known as the Sagrada Família, is a large Catholic church in Barcelona (Spain), designed by the Catalan architect, Antoni Gaudí. The works began in 1882 and, at the time of writing (March 2009), the temple is still under construction. It is the master work of Gaudí and the greatest exponent of Catalan Art Nouveau architecture. The work carried out by Gaudí before his death, i.e., the Nativity façade and the crypt, has been included by UNESCO in the World Heritage Site, “Works of Antoni Gaudí”.
The temple can be visited all year round and is one of the city’s main attractions, together with La Pedrera and Casa Batlló, both also designed and built by Gaudí.
