Cathedral – Gothic Quarter

The Gothic Quarter refers to an area of streets with medieval buildings located around the cathedral, the heart of the old city.

The cathedral is one of the most representative buildings of medieval Barcelona. Remains of the Roman colony of Barcino can also be seen in Plaça del Rei. There are also remains of the Roman wall and aqueduct, as well as a temple dedicated to Augustus. This neighbourhood is also home to the City Council and to the Generalitat, the autonomous government of Catalonia.
