Batlló House

The Batlló House, with its covering of coloured ceramic scales, is one of the most charismatic buildings in the Eixample area and one of the most characteristic buildings by Gaudí. The highly original façade is crowned by ceramic tiles with shapes that bring to mind fish scales and which pick out the spine of the dragon killed by Saint George.

The Batlló House by Antoni Gaudí, the Amatller House by Josep Puig i Cadafalch and the Lleó Morera House by Lluís Domènech i Montaner were collectively known as the “Block of Discord”, due to the contrast of the buildings and the different opinions of the people who preferred one or other of them. In the same space, we have an excellent example of Barcelona Art Nouveau architecture.
